Yet another tragedy in Englewood...

I know I never mentioned this before, but our wonderful assistant principal is the uncle of Oscar award winning Jennifer Hudson (our AP and her father were brothers). Yesterday, tragedy struck their family, once again. By now, I'm sure all of you have seen the story on the news, even if you don't live in Chicago, because of Jennifer's fame. If you haven't, I've put a link here to one of our local news stations here.

Last year, another member of this family was run over and killed while working as a flagger at a construction site. She also used to work at the Hell-Hole (before my time) so it was really upsetting for most of the staff. I understand that she left the Hell-Hole when she got this "great job" as a flagger. (It was way more money, and everyone was so happy for her.) This family has had to deal with so much heartache and tragedy in a very short period of time. On a much smaller scale, another member had her car stolen less than a month ago.

I've never really written about our AP because, #1, I LOVE him!! I suppose on some level, one of the reasons I've stuck it out at the Hell-Hole is because I'm waiting for him to take over, and fix things!! Reason #2 is because I knew this tidbit of information would remove a great deal of the anonymity surrounding my school. Because of that, I may just be deleting this post in the near future, but first I must make a request. Please, please say a prayer for the Hudson family.

I saw this in the news yesterday and followed it through to last night when her mom and brother were identified.

It is so sad and such a tragedy. Not that JH will ever know, but my heart, thoughts and sympathies go out to her.

there are so many acts of violence in the world today and when it hits close to home, it makes it that much worse. my prayers and condolances go out to JH. she just got engaged and everything was going so well for her. my prayer for her is to find the strength to channel her pain and loss into something good for herself in the future. if i could hold her and let her cry on my shoulder, i would. and i hope they catch the bastard who did this, and find her nephew.... god bless you and be with you JH. i'm so sorry you have to go through this and have lost your brother and mom. one comforting thought is at least she got to see your success and how happy and loved you are. i am sure she is beaming with pride in heaven right now. and chitowngirl, the same wishes for you and yours.
thanks for visiting my blog, hope you will keep coming back.

C ya

So very sad. For sure they are in my prayers, as Suz said, so much for one family to bear.

I'm glad I read your post, because I couldn't remember how he was related (other than that he was her uncle). I called Kristy and Meghan right away when I heard on Friday, but neither of them could remember either. Poor Mr. Hudson, he was so nice, so much family tragedy. I'm going to find a sympathy card on my lunch break and send it to school
