What do you do to cope when you're nervous?
I guess I try to distract myself, if I can. I also try to do some deep breathing, which truthfully helps. I try to think "happy thoughts," again in an effort to distract myself.
Speaking of happy, here is the jewelry my sisters-in-law gifted me with the other day.
Ok, bitch alert---
I need some advice from my Bloggy Buddies. As pretty as it is, this stuff really just isn't my style. I actually might wear the ring (I don't hate it) but I know I'll never wear the earrings or pendant. How rude and wrong would it be for me to exchange it all for just a really nice ring that I know I would wear? I just feel like, no matter how rude it may be to exchange it, I think it would be worse to waste their money by never wearing any of it. What do you think?

I think that they intended the gift to be something to flatter you and make you feel special for all that you do for your family. They would want you to have something that you love and that you will wear all of the time. I am also not a diamond earring or necklace girl, but will wear rings all day long! I think that you should get something that YOU really like and then let them know what THEY got for you. Tell them you liked the other stuff, but that you were worried you wouldn't be able to properly appreciate and wear it and wanted to get something you could use more so that you could remember their kind gesture. Most people would not be offended by that as they probably were unsure what to get for you in the first place. They all seem like such nice people and I think they just want you to be happy and enjoy your gift.
Ditto to what Mel said.
This is a tough one.
Personally, I would suck it up and wear this stuff when they were around. But that is just me.
YOU know them better than anyone else...so, I'd go with what you know about them. If you got them something they didn't like, would they feel ok swapping it out? If yes, then go for it.
Go exchange it. You deserve something you like.
I would value the relationship with my SIL over the jewelry and keep it, wear it when I'm with her, and pass it down to Monkey. I have pieces like that and I wear them to remember the giver; I've honestly become fond of them because I'm fond of the givers. Why take the risk of hurting her feelings?
WHOA - your SILs gave this to you? I'm still digesting that info. They ROCK, you ROCK - they must love you so much! What a generous thing to do! That is a real sista-gift.
I can't advise re: the exchange.
