Remember these little beauties? This was a cluster of 7 gorgeous tomatoes, that I shared with you the other day.
Yeah, well it suddenly occurred to my yesterday, after waiting all week for them to turn from orange to red, that they are SUPPOSED to be orange. (It's one of 6 the varieties of tomatoes I planted this year.) So, I headed outside to 'harvest' them, just as a wild pack of rabid squirrels was chattering up a storm, running around the corner of my deck. I looked over just in time to see three of those bastards running off with big, orange balls in their mouths! Mother scratchers!!!! There was a 4th tomato lying in the planter box, all bit up. OOOOOO! I was pissed! And, just in case I haven't mentioned it, I HATE SQUIRRELS!

ohhhhhh, im soooo sorry! i planted some tomatoes too! i bought the topsy turvy ones that hang, cuz last year, the little
#*^#%&^# ate my yummy golden orbs or ruined most of them too! i have some babies coming in but i am going out of town to see my sister C, so my hubby will be tomato sitting. hopefully, when i return...i will have a few. i have a few in pots near the back porch too, but i think some aphids got on the them. the leaves look eaten. don't know if they will make it. poor babies....i hope yours do. i heard if you put a pie tin....the aluminum kind, near by on a string or something, it keeps birds, squirrels and bunnies away....i haven't tried it yet. can't hurt. look forward to your posts. jo
hell- that is so frustrating. Well done for growing them anyway..
Oh I am so so with you! We lost all but one apple on our beautiful apple tree to those little monsters last year!
Squirrels are just rats with bushy tails. Ick! I know I bitch and moan about the cat and dog hair all over my house but I have to give them credit, they keep the squirrels (and bunnies, millions of damn bunnies) out of my garden and flowerpots!
OH NO THEY DIDN'T!!!!!
Little stealers.
I have no idea how you can keep them away (I don't think a shotgun is allowed for protection of 'maters in your area)
Good luck!!
ooooooooooh nooooooooooo lil bastards!!!
i dont know what to tell ya, except hang a scarecrow holding a fake dead squirrel by the neck and a butcher knife in the othe hand....
were those little bastards laughing as they ran off with their bounty? LOL
I like C's suggestion. Take pics of THAT scarecrow. :-)
damn spuirrels!! here, many people fill up the liter pet bottles with water and put them in strategic places around their gardens to keep out the cats....would that work for the frlippin squirrels?? hang old cds on fishing wired near the plants?
i had to laugh because a few years ago, i was watering a friends garden while she and her hub were in the states....she had these beaufiful tomatos but...one group of them just weren't turning....i watched them but...nope...still yellow....talked to her ont he phone a few days later and she informed me that they were , indeed yellow tomatos. do-oh!
have you ever seen purples cherry tomatos? last summer some friends of our in the states had some...they were delish!!!
We don't have too many squirrels. We have bunnies. It is a good thing they are cute because they eat all my flowers.
Sorry the squirrels did so much damage to something you wanted. I feel I have to apologize for them because I love squirrels and have them in my backyard on a daily basis. I put nuts and dried fruit out for them so maybe they won't be eating anyone's veggies. We have opossums too and they eat the cat food. Just like the kids I taught, and the homeless on the streets, I care for all of God's creatures.
OH NO! We have 27 tomatoes on our "deck garden"... they are not yet ripe, but I bet the squirrels will get to them when they are. Maybe I should leave the dogs outside so they can "patrol"...
I'm so sorry... what a bummer. :(
That stinks. You have such the green thumb! I am very impressed by your porch garden. :)
Did Chicago lay off a bunch of teachers? I hadn't heard.
I am thinking you deserve a nice weekend away. :)
