Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago: Body count, last six months:292 killed (murdered) in Chicago (vs. 221 killed in Iraq) (and they have Gun control)
State pension fund - $44 Billion in debt, worst in the country.
Chicago sales tax - 10.25% highest in country. (Look it up).
Chicago school system - rated one of the worst in the country.
Of course, they're all blaming each other. They can't blame Republicans because there aren't any. This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . And he's going to "fix" Washington politics for us? Good luck and may God help us.
Crap, right? I thought so....

Crap.
Ok, well some of the statistics may be true but I voted for Obama :-)
I get sick of my family and friends who live in other places say things like "California's expensive. It's dangerous. It's polluted. The government is corrupt." I don't know... clearly there are good and bad things about living anywhere! Chicago is full of culture, and history and it's beautiful... tell him to SUCK it. :)
Hey, on a positive note, I heard that we have the least number of deaths from fires in DECADES. So that's a good thing.
I'm VERY familiar with this.... we have PLENTY of this stuff down south... they all listen to Sean Hannity ("You're a Great American!" and all that other hero worship)... and they all want to point fingers rather than rolling up sleeves and working TOGETHER on common problems. Drives me NUTS. Many of my friends FREAKED when I told them I was PROUDLY voting for Obama (being a Christian woman from the South, it's ASSUMED that you're automatically a Republican.... NOT TRUE!!!). OH, it drives me NUTS! I could go on and on..!!
My church is VERY into community renewal, racial reconciliation, and making things BETTER!!! NOT pointing fingers! After all, Jesus said to LOVE one another... and last I checked love is a VERB (at least the way I define it).
Ok, I'll stop ... or else I'll REALLY get on the soapbox now.
Tell your Alabama relative that we are now (and will be for months, if not YEARS, to come) paying for the sins of the Bush/Cheney "super-capitalist experiment" (ie: capitalism run amok with NO checks or balances).
Sorry, I'm getting carried away again. I'll stop now!!! (I just get riled up....)
Sigh.....
sounds like he really gets your goat. You must love him to bits!!!
I just heard that Illinois was the worst for state debt. Crazy!
Politics are corrupt wherever you live. Chicago is no exception, just getting lots of attention cuz of idiot Blowgojevich.
Wow, C, looks like I hit a nerve :( Trust me, my cousin was only teasing me. He did NOT write this, it was an email he received and then forwarded to me, just to be a pain in the butt. Sorry it stirred up such bad memories of Alabama... :( I promise you, he's not "a judgemental, racist, bigot, redneck." His sister (obviously my cousin!) is marrying a black man this August, if that makes you feel any better ;-)
I thought of you today because I saw on CNN Obama was teasing about how his daughters school closed for the day for a "little ice". He said something like "Chicago schools wouldn't close... we need to toughen up DC" ;-). made me think of your comparison post. ;-)
Ummm, I think San Diego has the entire state of Illinois beat, hands down, in terms of pension debt! We are soooo close to declaring bankruptcy as a city. Sad, huh?
Chicago rocks!
Grrrrr.....
Great city. Don't buy into it!!
I need to visit Chicago, but a real visit... I've only passed through once or twice.
uh oh, sorry chichi.... lmao. i apologise. whooooooaaaaaaaaa nellie. it's just that i have known so many like that. when we lived in alabama, the series "roots" came out and our tiny apt. was on the borderline of the black/white neighborhood. it got very scary and i was ashamed to be white cuz of the severe racism that took place. so thats what you tapped into. hold me back, mama. i am glad your cousin is getting married soon. my daughter married a black guy who's mom is black and dad is white. thats why my jujube, julian, grandson is SO adorable. mixed babies are my very fave. so, erm, uhhhh, like can we still be friends or what......
when the mama is wrong, the mama admits it. ;)
