Highlight of my weekend...
I wasn't around much yesterday, or I should say I wasn't inside, so I didn't watch any TV. I think on some level, I just knew I couldn't handle to nonstop tributes and remembrances. My emotions have been on edge already this weekend, and I knew it wouldn't be good for me.
But, I did turn the TV on when I went to bed, which was early enough to watch the ABC 9/11 program (sorry, I don't remember what it was titled) The show was hard enough to watch, because the first half was all about the Kids of 9/11, but then at some point, this commercial aired, and that was it. The dam broke, and I couldn't stop crying.
Speaking of crying, I'll be driving my daddy to the airport in a couple of hours for his yearly trip to Italy. I'm already missing him. :( I hope these next two weeks go by quickly. For the first time EVER, my parents will be flying home together. Don't be too surprised if you read about an international incident aboard an Alitalia flight in a couple of weeks. I already suggested he upgrade one of their tickets to first class so they don't have to sit together. It's not gonna be good...
I went down to ground zero on the first anniversary. It was hard. I don't think I will ever do that again on 9/11. But, I go to that area often. Every time I look at the spot the towers should be in, I get misty, but then I look at all the construction and feel good. The city is alive again.
Love the vid! That was great. But I don't cry. I'm a big boy. And yes, I can't wait to see the Air Marshalls drag one of your parents off the plane. m.
Okay so then I see your post today and it makes me cry all over again! Thanks...a lot....I went on a 35 mile bike ride...so I didn't watch much TV...but I did take a pic at the cool fire house on my blog.
Now that I have been to N.Y. I recognize downtown, Brooklyn, ground zero...what they went through is insne.
I really could not watch much of the 9/11 coverage this weekend...you know I cry at nothing on a regular day. I hope your Dad has a great trip and that they make it home in a few weeks without the Air marshall's getting involved or CNN posting their faces for all to see. :)
I didn't watch the 9/11. It seems so weird to be in Florida now when I was in DC in a federal building then, wondering if my bro in law was ok in the pentagon and finding out later that one of the partners in my future law firm was on a plane that went down. No I thought about the small issues in my life like the beach and my dog and how thankful I am for my freedom.
This started out as a place to document the craziness that was my job as a Chicago Public School teacher. However, over the past 5 or so years, it's become more about the craziness that is my life.

Don't make me cry at work.
I just couldn't watch the coverage. It was too much for me. So sad.

I hope they have a wonderful trip! Now you have my curiosity going - why can't they fly together? I haven't watched the video yet... will do that now.
