Some of you may remember a while back when I posted about these awesome kids and their even MORE awesome music teacher. Well, imagine my surprise when, while watching the Oscar pre-show tonight, I saw that they'd be performing! Here's a clip I found from the Today Show.

I've posted several times now about The Chicago Sun-Times' feature on Fridays called "This week in WTF?!" This week's list was particularly amusing. This was my favorite video:

This one was pretty funny, too.

You should click around on the rest just for fun.

I had a very long day today, a meeting after school, problems with Stud this morning at school, I could go on and on. However, when I came home and went directly to my favorite form of stress-relief (reading blogs!! Get your minds outta the gutter!) I watched this and my troubles seemed to melt away. They were melted by the tears streaming down my face, as I laughed my ass off!!

I just stole this from the totally whacky Teisha. Thanks!

NOW do you get it?!

Thanks to this brilliant man, I found out that today is National Margarita Day! Woo-freakin'-hoo!!!! I know I already shared with you that I gifted myself with this a couple of weeks ago.I just made a VERY large margarita (actually, about the amount in the photo above!), and I'm getting all set to enjoy it while watching Glee. Sounds like a perfect night to me!

It's that time of year again...

Stud will be participating, once again, in the annual St. Baldrick's Day Event at his high school. And, once again, he will be honoring Katie, the daughter of Karen and Gregg, and the sister of David.

It seems that this year, the school is trying something new. Click on the link above for details. I'm still waiting to find out if they will be completely eliminating the in-school event. I hope not, since the boys love doing it so much. I will keep you updated.

In the meantime, please take a moment to click HERE to read about the St. Baldricks Foundation is all about. Then, click HERE to make a donation on Stud's behalf. When you open his page, you'll be able to see a picture of Katie, and read a beautiful poem that she wrote during her treatment.

If you're a new(er) reader, you can click on the "St. Baldrick's" label below to read past posts about this awesome event.

My Bloggy Buddies have been a HUGE support in this event the past two years, and for that, we both thank you. If you can help again this year, please do. It's such an incredibly important cause.

I'm going to leave you with the before and after photos from the past two years. (Mostly cuz I can never get enough of that face!!!)

Teachers make too much money!

Teachers make too much money!

by Sarasota Values Education on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 8:32pm

Are you sick of high paid teachers? Teachers’ hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It’s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - baby sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That’s right. Let’s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan — that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now how many do they teach in day…maybe 30? So that’s $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET’S SEE…. That’s $585 X 180= $105,300 peryear. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master’s degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 childrenX 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute — there’s something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher’s salary (nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student–a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your kids!

WHAT A DEAL!!!!

(I just lifted this from Ricochet. Thank you for sharing!!)

Parent Teacher Conference

I watched this at 6:30 this morning over at Tiffany's place, and almost pissed my pants!! It was the perfect way to start my day, before heading over to the Hell-Hole.

The sad thing is, I've heard most of this first-hand, as have most of my teacher friends. Don't worry, I'm not gonna climb up on my soap box, I just wanted to share the funny.

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Well, DUH!

I had to share this with my Bloggy Buddies, cuz it cracked me up! Last night, I downloaded a free app for my new iPod that lets you take IQ tests. These are the results for the first one I took last night.

In case it's too blurry for you to read, it says, "Your IQ:163 - Extraordinary genius" HA! I love this app!!

I think we need to keep working on those letter sounds...

"MRS. L.!!! J JUST SAID THE A-WORD!!!!"

"Excuse me?!"

"Yeah, he just said, 'N@$%#$%!' "

"Um, well, that word starts with an N, not an A. And, you're right, that's NOT a word we use in here."

Monday, February 14, 2011

Oh, happy day!!!

He sent Michelle home!!!!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Prayers needed!!

I got a very early morning message from Jo this morning, telling me her sister, C, is in the hospital. It seems she's had a heart attack. Click over to Jo's place for the details. PLEASE send all the prayers and positive thoughts you can over to C.

For the past couple of hours...

...I've been sitting up here in my room, trying to watch episodes of some of my favorite shows online (most of which I missed cuz I was sitting in the ER with Stud!). I say 'trying' because I can hardly hear my computer. Wanna know why? Stud has a few friends over, and they're hanging out in his "apartment," aka-the basement. No, they're not yelling and screaming, or being obnoxious. They're LAUGHING! About every 10 seconds, they burst into laughter. I'm talking about deep, from their toes, belly laughs. And I LOVE it! :)

I just found my new uniform for the Hell-Hole!

I found it here, after clicking over from here.

Camera dump and some new toys...

I've finally uploaded a handful of pictures that I've had in my camera for a while now. These first few are from last Friday. You may recall we had 2 snow days on Wed. and Thur., and I had exactly FOUR babies show up on Friday!! In the morning, I also had the 4 kindergartners that showed up, since the Kdg. teacher called in.

Here are 3 of mine and 3 of hers playing with some math manipulatives. I wish you could have seen my 'BIG' 1st graders interacting with the 'baby' kindergartners. They were SO cute.

Here is my #4 and the #4 Kdg. at the listening center. How stinkin' cute are these two!?
Their creations.

I took this video for you on Monday. We got another 3-4 inches that night. It was such pretty snow, I just had to take some video. It was those giant, beautiful kind of flakes that make you feel like you're in a snow globe!

Ok, I've been meaning to tell you all about this stuff for over a week now. I just recently found out, through talking to my brother, that my 'points' on my credit card expire after so long. I NEVER knew that! I went back just for the past 12 months, and I had unknowingly lost around 10,000 points. WTF?! A few months ago, I cashed in some points for the first time, and got some silly things (a DWTS workout DVD [and yes, it's STILL in the cellophane!] and a power screwdriver) Every month, I go online and check out the "Hot Deals" for the month. More than once, I saw things I really wanted, but by the time I got around to actually ordering it, the deal would be expired. In January, there were a few things I wanted, one being the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. Oh, don't judge!! Actually, Stud really wanted it. I figured, anything that might get him to drink freshly juiced fruits and veggies as opposed to pop was ok in my book!

Well, of course, by the time I went to order it (truthfully, it was the night Jack LaLanne passed away) the deal was over. But then, my brother let me know about the expiring points. I was so pissed about losing so many points, I decided to just go crazy and get a bunch of stuff.

So, here's what I treated myself to:

I've been wanting one of these babies for YEARS! I remember the first time I saw one of these at Sam's Club (it may have been a little bigger) I wanted it SO badly!! But, it was like $500! Over the years, I've continued to price it every time I go there, and the price has steadily dropped. But, it never reached a price I could justify to myself, since it really isn't a necessity. Well, you can't beat FREE, now can you?! It arrived today, and I can't wait to try it out tomorrow night!!

Here's our pretty little juicer. It came over the weekend. We used it the other day and made all kinds of interesting juices. I made myself a really yummy combo of granny smith apples (my favorite!), pears, carrots and fresh ginger. YUM! Stud really liked the apple (just granny smiths) and apple/carrot. We'll be playing with it some more this weekend. I bought some spinach to add to something, I'm just not sure what.Ok, this was the most ridiculous of all my choices. Ever since I, I mean, Santa, treated me to my Keurig machine for Christmas, I've been trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my K-cups. I kept looking at the various holders available, but they all were so ridiculously priced! I wasn't going to spend upwards of $30 just for a thing to HOLD the cups. That didn't include any cups, just the holder. Yeah, right! But, then as I was perusing the rewards catalog, this little puppy was available for a really small number of points, so I figured, what the hell!
It was the perfect addition to the little coffee center I set up on the island in the basement. The last thing I do every morning before I leave for work is run downstairs and make my coffee to go. I haven't been to a Dunkin Donuts since November! This baby has paid for itself by a longshot!
Now, the piece de resistance! I got an iPod!!! Don't you love my wallpaper? Stud sent it to me :)

I know, big deal, right? Well, it kinda is to me, since I have yet to join the 21st century! The best part is that MY iPod is nicer than the one Stud and my nieces have. Tee hee!! I have the newest one, which means it takes pictures AND video, I can Skype, Face Time, it gets WiFi, so I can read email, blogs, etc. And, of course, I can play games!! I also downloaded several different eReader apps, so I already have a 'stack' of books just waiting to be read. It basically can do everything the iPhone can do except for make phone calls! For the past few days since I've had it, I've been using it to IM Stud, which annoys him to no end! Even though he's right down in the basement, I've been sending him messages like crazy. bwah hahahaha!!!

Tomorrow, I will be starting my day with a lovely cup of coffee made with a K-cup I'll choose from my cute little carousel. Then, when I get home, I'll probably make myself a delightful margarita after dinner, while Stud enjoys some apple/carrot juice, and who knows, maybe I'll write my post from my iPod! Wow, I'd better watch out. Next thing I know, I'll be Facebooking - NOT!

Email of the Day

My dad comes through again!! This had tears streaming down my face. This is NOT appropriate for children!!

Brrrr...

At this moment, the actual temperature here is -7. I think the weather guy said the windchill is like -20, or something like that. We are supposed to hit a high of 12 later this evening, around 5pm. I wonder how many of the babies will be at school today. Our kids are all walkers, and that's kinda nippy weather for babies to walk in, especially when a lot of them don't have gloves/mittens, or even hats.

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

OMG!OMG!OMG!

Just got back from dinner, and naturally, the first thing I did was check my email. Look what was there!!! [and please don't judge his poor spelling! :( ]

Hi L,
Didn't here from you so I thought I would e-mail you. Hows your week
going? I'm freezing my ass off.
Getting to old for this cold weather. Can't wait for summer. I sure do
hope that we can get together it would be nice to see you. If you
won't call me give me your number and I'll call you.

Well I have to run the little 1 has a head cold.

Take care, B

Seriously?!?! Come on, I need your two cents on this, Bloggy Buddies!

Thanks for all the well-wishes for Stud. He's feeling much better today. He stayed home from school, and mostly just stayed in bed. My mother-in-law came over this afternoon to check on him and bring him soup. He stayed in bed until CSJ stopped by around 3:15ish, and made him get up. He ate some more soup, then took a shower and got dressed. After eating the soup, he said his stomach felt a little upset, so he took one of the medications the ER doc prescribed yesterday for nausea. I had plans to meet my grad school girls for our monthly get-together, and he wanted to come along. He actually ate a little more at the restaurant, so I think he's on the mend! I just hope the restaurant food doesn't come back to haunt him later tonight.

Oo, time to go watch the premier of Matthew Perry's new show, Mr. Sunshine. You know, cuz I don't watch enough TV as it is!!! Yep, I'm a big loser. But, I'm ok with it! :)

Quick question...

Instead of letting this bloated party girl perform this bastardized version of our national anthem, (including screwed up lyrics!!):

why wasn't this adorable little moppet there to do it?

What a day!!

I'm just getting home from a LONG day. I'm so tired, I could cry. I have a killer migraine coming, partly because the only thing I've put in my mouth today was a piece of gum. The other part is that I woke up with my period. (Sorry, boys!)

Let me give you the highlights-

When I was about a block away from school at the end of the day, I got a call from Stud's school. It was the secretary from the Dean's Office. Naturally, my first thought was, "What the HELL did he do NOW!?" She tells me, "I'm just calling to tell you Stud is having some issues with stomach pains, and he's in the library. Are you on your way to pick him up?" I tell her I am, and she says, "Ok, then just come to the front and we'll buzz you in." Hmmm, that's weird, I thought. So now I'm driving a little more aggressively, as I'm trying to hurry. I called my sister to chat, like I do most days on my way home. I tell her about the call, and we keep talking. About 10 minutes after the first call, I get a second call from school. "This is Mrs. L. again. I just wanted to call you back so you weren't alarmed when you got here. We've called an ambulance for Stud." WTF?!?!?! I click back over to my sister, tell her what's going on, and she says she's leaving right now and she'll meet me there. Now, I'm kinda freaking out. While I'm driving like a lunatic, I make the executive decision to call CSJ.

It seemed that every single street I turned down was the wrong street. Construction here, traffic jam there, argh! I was losing it!! Then, I called my sister when I was about 5 or 6 blocks away to see if she was there yet. She said that she had just pulled up, but watched them load Stud into the ambulance and leave. She didn't know where they were going, because they seemed to be going the wrong way. As we were talking, I got close enough to the school to see the flashing lights of the ambulance, and they were, indeed, going the 'wrong' way. They were heading south, when the closest hospital was north, and only about a mile away.

My sister took off after the ambulance, while I tried to call the office. Because it was after hours, no one answered. I decided I'd better stop at the school first and find out where the hell they were going. I screeched into a spot in front of the entrance, threw my door open and ran to the building. I saw one of the deans waiting at the door for me. He told me that the two hospitals that were close were both on by-pass, and so they had to take Stud to a different hospital further away. I jumped back into my car, which I had left running with the door open, and took off down the street. I called my sister to let her know where they were going, which was a good because she had lost them at that point. I called CSJ back and updated him. At this point, I was in the full-on ugly cry. I couldn't believe I had missed them by a matter of less than a minute, and I kept thinking about my baby being alone in the back of an ambulance, probably scared to death.

Wow, this is WAY longer than I had intended, and I'm exhausted, so I'm going to wrap it up. First, let me tell you that he's fine. The doctor said it was probably just a virus. I guess what happened was, as he was sitting in the library after school, working on a paper, he got a pain in his hip. He said he felt like he needed to lie down, so he did, right there on the library floor. This prompted the librarian to yell at him to get up. But, as he started to try and get up, he felt his stomach start flip-flopping, so he yelled for a friend to bring him the garbage, and he proceeded to vomit several times. By then, the dean had arrived. He tried to help Stud get up, and then Stud said he told him he needed to use the bathroom. He was sweating profusely, and had the chills. He made it to the bathroom just in time to have massive, explosive diarrhea.

Apparently, when he started vomiting, the school decided to call 911. He said the paramedics arrived while he was in the bathroom, and they took him from there. At the hospital, they drew some blood (another post all by itself!!) and took a urine sample. Like I said, the doc said he thought it was just a virus, but wanted to wait for the lab work. In the meantime, they gave him some IV fluids, and some medication through the IV for pain, and the nausea. A little while later, the nurse came back for more blood (Oh, holy mother of God, yet ANOTHER post!!) and we waited some more. The doctor finally came back after about another hour and said everything came back normal, and that it was a stomach virus. He sent him home with 3 prescriptions (2 for pain/cramps, 1 for nausea/vomiting).

The nurse that came to discharge him removed the IV, and put a bandage on his hand. Well, for some reason, when he started to put his coat on, the bandage popped, and blood started spurting. I really thought I was going to have to catch him when he passed out. Instead, he managed to throw himself over the edge of the bed, while she fixed him up. That was the icing on the cake. I may have mentioned before that I DON'T DO BLOOD. Apparently, my crappy-ass attitude has rubbed off on my son. He doesn't do blood OR needles. Maybe I'll bore you with the details tomorrow.

We had plans for tonight to attend a special event for one of Stud's besties. His friend, George, was being baptized tonight at his new church, and had invited us to come about a month ago. For the past few days, we've been talking about tonight, and we made plans to pick up Bro from school, as he was invited, too. Oh, I forgot to mention Bro!

In the windup, he rode along in the ambulance with Stud, so he wasn't alone after all. I love that man!!! I told you a little about him here after the Mother/Son Dance. (George is also in that post. He's the one we snuck in to the dance!) Anyway, he stayed with us at the hospital for quite a while. Eventually, my sister decided she was going to go since CSJ was there with me, and so she took Bro home. I felt terrible that he had been there so long, and even worse that now, he didn't have a ride to the baptism. (Bro doesn't drive for medical reasons.) He said he was going to just walk there (the church is about 4-5 blocks from the boys' school, which is where Bro lives.) but the temperatures were going to be really frigid tonight. I felt awful.

I assumed we weren't going to make it to the baptism, given the circumstances, and I had texted George several times from the hospital to keep him in the loop, but the last few texts said we probably weren't going to make it. He kept saying not to worry about it, and to let him know how Stud was doing, etc. Well, somehow, we made really good time on the drive home, and lo and behold, we happen to approach the church only a few minutes after the event was to start. Stud absolutely INSISTED that we turn into the lot and go to the baptism. I kept telling him that George understood, but he said this was VERY important to George and he wanted to be there. So, we went!

We left the church around 9, but then had to drop off his prescriptions. I also had to get gas, as I didn't want to do it tomorrow. Our temperatures are supposed to drop to below zero tomorrow. By the time I went back to Walgreen's, and got home, it was nearly 10pm. Thank GOD Buster didn't decide to punish us by using my kitchen as a toilet. The poor baby hadn't been out since 7 this morning!

Oh my holy hell, it's now a quarter to 11!! I HAVE to go to bed. I still don't know whether Stud is going to school tomorrow or not. They didn't say he couldn't, and he's insisting he wants to go because he's working on some art project he REALLY wants to finish. (Yeah, how shocking that it isn't an English paper he REALLY want to write!) I'm afraid he may have a repeat of the vomiting, or, God forbid, the explosive diarrhea. I guess we'll have to wait and play it by ear in the morning. In the meantime, I'm going to go check on my baby, and then put my exhausted self to bed. I'm really feeling the effects of the adrenaline crash!

Did you watch?

I didn't watch the game today. Big surprise. In the past, if I was at a Superbowl Party, I would just watch the commercials. Today, I couldn't even be bothered to do that. With the wonders of modern technology and the beauty of the interwebs, I simply Googled "Superbowl Commercials" and got this.

I started watching the 60+ commercials that, thankfully, just play one after another. But, I had to stop because it's past my bedtime. So far, this has been one of my favorites. If you didn't see it during the game, be sure to watch all the way to the end, and you'll see why I like it. ;-)

Weird update?

I know I haven't mentioned BH since I left you hanging here. That was Jan. 23. The next day, I sent him a response that basically said I'm sorry I bothered him, and I NEVER would have sought him out had I have known he was still married. I know, I know, lame, right? My inner 17 year-old was still in control then. Sue me! I told him I didn't want to cause any problems for him with his wife, and I told him, given the circumstances, I had no plans to use the cell phone number he sent me.

The next day, I got the sweetest reply from him:
Hi L, There is no reason to fell bad. I have a lot of friends
that are woman and I talk to them often
We are lucky that where still here to be talking and still
friends. I was glad to find you. So there are no worries. I
prefer to talk instead of e-mail because I still can't spell
:-) It would be nice to see you and Janie says hi.

Hope you have a great day.
Your friend B

About a minute later he sent this:
See told you I can't spell. Even the spell check can't
figure it out.

Janie is his sister. She and I were very close in high school. It kind of made me smile that he actually mentioned to her that we had touched base with each other.

I'm embarrassed to say I never replied to those emails. I didn't really know what to say. "Yeah, I would love to see you, too. I can tell you all about how I had our future together all planned out." Not so much....

And, yes, I'm fully aware of the fact that we could just reconnect, get to know each other again, and resume our awesome friendship. You can never have too many friends, right? Except, that pesky 17 year-old doesn't want any more friends. She wants him to be her boyfriend!! God, she's annoying!

Like I said, I haven't replied, and I didn't get any more messages from him. I was just about ready to close that door, when what pops up my inbox today? Another message from Classmates saying, "BH stopped by yesterday. Open your Classmates guestbook." What the hell? What was he looking for? Did he think something changed there in the past two weeks? Did he think maybe I left him a message there? What? Why did he go there again?

Am I just a big whiny baby for not wanting to be his friend? Ok, you don't have to answer that, I already know the answer. I'm just not ready to do anything about it yet. The 'Valentine Season' isn't helping things, either. It tends to bring out my inner child. Oh, who am I kidding? It bring out the lonely, bitter, middle-aged woman in me! I hope I can grow up, and get past this someday soon. I really would like to be friends with him again. I just don't think I can do it today.

I Heart Urban Dictionary

Leave it to Urban Dictionary to perfectly define/describe what the past couple of days have looked like for me. :)

internest

February 3, 2011 Urban Word of the Day
The concoon of blankets, pillows, duvets, and comfy things you gather around yourself to keep warm whilst spending long amounts of time on the internet.
1. Hey were's Jane tonight?
Oh she didn't want to leave her internest.

2. Tom knew that eating pizza in his internest was a bad idea, but it was just too warm and snuggly

And so it ends...

I'm watching a live news conference on WGN, and just heard that school will resume tomorrow. Poop.

A couple of interesting things I found in the paper so far this morning...

Bone-chilling temperatures ahead as nasty weather continues

Tales from the Frigid Front: Stuck in a surreal scene on Lake Shore Dr.

Editor's snow hero: CTA bus driver

This has become the image that is being used to represent the Blizzard of 2011. This is Lake Shore Drive, and some of the cars that were abandoned during the storm. Here's an even better view from the air. Amazing.

And so it begins....

Dorky Dog just woke me up to let him out. It's just after 6:30 am (thank you Mr. Margarita for helping me sleep in!) and my weather widget says -1. The actual temp is supposed to plummet today. I turned the morning news show on when Buster woke me up, and the weather guys just said the windchill factor is going to remain around -15 all day. That's actually much warmer than originally predicted. The other day they were calling for ACTUAL temps between -5 and -20, with windchills as low as -40.

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Ok, I deserved that...

I just gave myself the worst brainfreeze!! But, it was oh-so-worth it!

Guess what I'm enjoying...

...after an awesome dinner.
That, my friends, is one of the BEST margaritas I have EVER made!! Look at how perfectly thick it is. My straw stands straight up!! I had lots of leftovers from my Girls' Night last Friday, so I figured, what the hell, today's a SNOW DAY!! Enjoy yourself, ChiTown!!

I made a freakin' awesome dinner, if I do say so myself. It's actually the same stuff I made last Wednesday when the girls from school came over. My favorite crock pot chicken recipe, and the Mexican/Spanish (?) rice my mother-in-law taught me how to make over 25 years ago. YUM!! I really outdid myself tonight, and it was 10 times better than what I made last week. Hell, it was the best I've ever made. I stuffed myself with chicken and rice, and now I'm washing it all down my gullet with a smooth, creamy margarita. What could be better?

Timelapse of West Beverly Chicago Blizzard of 2011

Bestest Friend just sent me this video. TOTALLY COOL!!!

(West Beverly is a neighborhood, not too far from my own. One of Stud's besties lives there. For those who aren't in the know, Chicagoans refer to their neighborhood when telling people where they live, as the city is so HUGE, you can't just say, "I live in Chicago.")

Oh my freakin' hell, NO WAY!!!! (updated)

WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER SNOW DAY!!!

I can't even believe it!! I just received a call from Stud's school, letting me know that they were canceling school tomorrow, and as I was hanging up, my cell phone rang. It was Bestest Friend (have I ever mentioned that she is also a CPS teacher?) telling me that CPS also canceled school! WHAT?!?! As I was talking to her, I got 3 text messages from other friends telling me the same thing. I'm seriously in shock. Hell, they might as well give us Friday off, too, since it doesn't make sense to make us come in for one day, then have the weekend off, right? Stud is going to enjoy a lovely 5 1/2 day weekend, and he couldn't be happier.

I have a feeling that tomorrow's day off has more to do with the plunging temperatures that are predicted. Truthfully, I don't care WHY they made the decision, I'm just going to enjoy the blessing.

*UPDATE* This was recently posted on the online version of The Chicago Sun Times. Also, New Principal sent out an email to the staff asking us to let her know if we think we'll be able to make it in on Friday. The principals are all supposed to poll their staff, then let CPS know. I'm sure this will play a big part in their decision about whether or not to open school on Friday.
You KNOW I told her I probably wouldn't be able to make it, right?

He never ceases to amaze me... (updated)

I was sitting on my bed, talking to Bestest Friend, when I heard a snowblower in my neighbor's driveway. I assumed it was the guy across the street, who usually shovels/snowblows for her. Suddenly, massive amounts of snow were being thrown against my bedroom window. I didn't really give it too much thought, since I knew it was being thrown from the machine. I did, however, get up after a few minutes to look out the window, and saw several of my neighbors out shoveling in front of their houses. As I joked with Bestest Friend about my industrious neighbors, and my ABSOLUTE laziness, I wandered out to my living room. I took a peek out my front door and saw this:

Oh my hell, it was CSJ!!! I had been listening to the snowblower for about 30 minutes at this point, but like I said, I assumed it was my neighbor.

He literally just left. All told, I think he was out there for nearly 3 hours. He did pretty much the whole section of street in front of my house, my neighbors' sidewalks on both sides of me, and both their driveways. My driveway is crazy big for a typical Chicago lot (it's a double-wide, and about 100 feet long, if not more) so it took him a while. He must have had his dad drop him off, and he used his snowblower, which is a really nice one.

Right before he left, I suddenly heard a loud "BOOM" on the side of my house, which scared the shit out of me! I ran to Stud's room to try and look out the window, but couldn't see anything. I then went to the front window, while there was another 'boom.' When I looked out, I saw a truck, with a plow, barreling down my driveway, toward the street. He did it a couple more times, then pulled out into the street, got out, and yelled something to CSJ, then left.
*UPDATE* I just got the scoop from CSJ. I guess his dad met this guy at the gas station, and asked him to come to my house and plow. But, by the time they got there (because my FIL got stuck) CSJ was already pretty much finished. He made a couple of passes, but there was hardly any snow that needed to be removed. My FIL still paid him $30 because the guy waited around while my FIL was stuck.

There was also a big truck with a trailer parked in the street. It was CSJ's dad, who came back to pick him up. I am ever so thankful to the both of them. Except now, I have no excuse to not go to work tomorrow, since now I can get out of my garage. tee hee!

My Blackberry is Not Working

I just stole this from Tracie over at Tales of a Sweet Girl. It just cracked me up! I love British humor!

Blizzard of 2011

Ok, here are just a couple of crappy pictures, because my camera keeps dying on me. Plus, I can't get out my front door to take any good pictures!

This is what was happening last night, when I told you that snow was seeping under my back door.

Dorky Dog decided to wake me up around 2 am to go out again, and this is what the door looked like then. Thankfully, I was able to open it again after Stud forced it shut.
This is the snow drift that formed up against my garage door. You can see that by 2am, it was more than half-way up my door.
This is what the door looked like at 7am when I let Dorky Dog out again. It's about 3/4 of the way covered at this point. I hope I don't have to go anywhere anytime soon!! Crap, what if we have school tomorrow?!
This was the view from my kitchen window of what my neighbor's driveway and side of her house looks like.
This is her garage door covered in it's own drift. I don't know if you can see the huge drift between her yard and her other neighbor's yard. It's as high as the chain link fence that separates their yards. Try clicking on it for an enlarged view.I tried to get some video for you, but it's pretty crappy. It was way too snowy and the wind gusts were too strong to actually go outside, so I tried to take it from my kitchen window.

This was taken from my bedroom window. I don't think you can really see anything because it's so dark. I was trying to capture how strong the wind was blowing. We had wind gusts that hit 60 mph.

I wish I could have gotten my damn camera to turn on while it was thundering and lightening. THAT was quite a show!!

I know it's a snow day, but I think I'm going to go wake Stud up. It's already 10:30 here. That's plenty late to sleep in, don't you think? I have a feeling they may get another snow day tomorrow. They were sent home early yesterday, just like I had predicted. My poor baby sat at school for over 2 hours waiting to be picked up. The automated message I received on my phone said that they were being dismissed at 2pm, and that classes were canceled for Wednesday. They will be following a 'mass schedule' on Thursday (30 minute classes, with a full mass in the middle of the day, dismissal at 2pm) and then there is no school Friday because of a teacher institute day. So, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they just cancel tomorrow since it's a short day anyway.

Our weather is not going to get any better tomorrow. Once the snow stops, our temperatures are supposed to plunge. They're predicting temps of -5 to -20, which means windchill readings of -20 to -40. Ah, good times, good times.... I'll be really curious to see if we get another snow day tomorrow. I doubt it, but I'm still having a hard time believing we got TODAY as a snow day! It really is ridiculous to make those kids walk to school when it's below zero. So, send positive thoughts and prayers this way, if you don't mind! :)

Wish me luck, I'm off to wake a sleeping teenager!!

What the hell was that?!

Oh my holy hell. Have any of you ever experienced a 'thunder snow?' Holy shit!!! There was just the BIGGEST flash of lightening, and then the BIGGEST clap of thunder. It is seriously thundering and lightening outside, while the wind is gusting at like 100 miles per hour (only a slight exaggeration) and it's snowing like a mo-fo! I started taking pictures and videos for you, and my camera crapped out on me. The is a HUGE snowdrift across my garage door right now, about halfway up the door. I hope I don't have to go anywhere anytime soon. Also, the snow is blowing so hard against my backdoor that it keeps seeping in under the door. I tried to open the door and stuff a towel between the doors, but that proved to be a big mistake. My door must have swelled from all the moisture because I couldn't get it to close. Stud finally just forced it closed with his brute strength, which is great, but that probably means we're trapped in our damn house!! The snow is blowing pretty hard against the front door, too. I went to see if I could get some video for you in the front of the house, since I have a street light right in front of my house, and you can really see the snow coming down. However, the entire storm door is covered in snow! I can't see out of it.

They say we can get up to 30 inches of snow during this storm. Luckily for me, my sister and I made a midnight run to Kmart the other day, and I got sucked into the $5 bin of videos at the check out. I bought 8 movies!! Guess what I'll be doing all day tomorrow on my SNOW DAY!!!

Oo, the 10:00 news is starting. Gotta go watch the blizzard coverage. It's supposed to be worse than the Blizzard of 1967!! (be sure to check out the pictures included in this article) My dad was at work when that blizzard hit, and it took him 14 hours to get home!

I just found this crazy video clip. My favorite part is the smoking reporter!!

Just keepin' you in the loop...

A couple of news blurbs:

Here

Here (although, I have a hard time believing this one. It says we had a snow day 12 years ago, but I really don't remember it. Then again, according to the dates, it would have been merely an extension of our Christmas break.)

Here

Is the world coming to an end?!?!?

WE'RE GETTING A SNOW DAY TOMORROW!!!!!! Oh my freakin' hell!!! I'm way too excited to write a proper post, plus my laptop is having internet issues (I'm on Stud's desktop) so I'll have to come back later. WOO-TO-THE-FREAKIN'-HOO!!!!!! I'm going to try and take a little video to share later, too. But, right now, I need to get off this computer since it's basically in front of my picture window, and it sounds like the storm is about to blow it in.
