What did YOU do for Valentine's Day?

Ok, so Magnum turned 50 last Friday.  I know I've posted more than once about how his birthday is the day before Valentine's Day, and how I always used to make it a big, combined celebration back in the day.  Well, I managed to tie the two together again this year.  I surprised him the night of his birthday with concert tickets.  For a concert that was the next night.  Valentine's Day.  And, man, did I do good....

We went to see........

Ok, they actually look more like this now.....

 We freakin' saw Fleetwood Mac!!!

Man, oh man, did they put on an incredible show!!  I don't know if you are aware of this, but they are no longer spring chickens. (Mick 67, John 69, Christine 71, Lindsey 65, Stevie 66)  We were seriously impressed with the show they put on that night.  They played for 2 1/2 hours, with no intermission.  There was a point, about half-way through, where everyone but Lindsey Buckingham went backstage for a few minutes, and he did a solo, but it was less than 10 minutes.  We were amazed at their stamina.

Speaking of stamina, let me just say, Lindsey Buckingham is a freakin' MACHINE!  That man was up and down, back and forth, all over that stage.  He can still play that guitar like a rock star.  It was incredible.

Stevie's pipes aren't quite what they used to be, but she still sounded great.  She can't quite hit the top of her range anymore, so she adjusted a few notes here and there.  But, it took nothing away from the show.  And, let me tell you, she can still dance and move, and play The Diva.  (She actually did two costume changes, which for some reason, amused the hell out of Magnum.)

It was really just an awesome night.  We were cracking up, though, at the crowd.  They were all geezers like us!  Most of the men were gray and/or bald, and we lost count of the number of canes/walkers/wheelchairs we saw.  For real!  We thought it was so funny.  Although, I didn't think it was funny when none of them stood up during the show.  I was dying to get up and dance, like I've done at every single other concert I've ever been to.  But, I didn't want to stand in front of the people behind me unless they were standing, so I just kept my behind in my seat.  Although, we DID get up during the encores, and I got my boogie on.  There was a group one section over, and a few rows back, from us, who were up and dancing the whole time.  I kept telling Magnum that I wanted to move over where they where, but I didn't want to make the people in my row stand up and let me out!

While we were waiting to get into the venue, we noticed a sign hanging on the wall above the doors.  It was one of those "we are not responsible....." type postings.  But, in the wording, the old name for the venue (The Rosemont Horizon) was used.  (It is now called the Allstate Arena.)  That made me think about the very first time I was there.  (Actually I feel like I shared this story before...)  It was the very first concert I ever went to, and Magnum took me.  We went to see ZZ Top.  As we were talking about that night, it suddenly occurred to me that that was ALSO for Magnum's birthday.  His 21st, to be exact.  It was almost 29 years to the day.  (I actually looked it up, and that concert was on Feb. 27)  The part I think I shared before is how, after the concert, on our way out, I fell down a whole flight of stairs.  Magnum jokingly asked if I was planning to do that again that night and I said, "Jeez, I hope not, cuz this time I'd probably break a damn hip!"  He then made some kind of crack about how he'd just borrow a walker from somebody there for me.  Ah....the joys of aging....

I hope you all did something great for your Valentine's Day, too. =)

How did this Valentine's Day compare with Valentine's days of years past?

Well, it was definitely less mushy/flowery/chocolatey/romantic than the ones of my youth, but WAY better than some of the ones I spent alone.  I already told you about it yesterday, so I guess I'm done. =)

My Funny Valentine

Ok, I know I already did my post for today, but I just had to share my Valentine's Day gift.

I got a call bright and early this morning, asking if I would like to spend the day with a certain little Monkey.  Well, is the Pope Catholic?!

We had a delightful morning of play before she literally fell asleep in her highchair while eating a cracker!  Hahaha!!  She looked like this for the next THREE hours!
The poor baby still isn't feeling so hot.  She started yawning around 10am, and I thought I was going to get her to sleep then, but she got a second wind, and played for a while, before she fell asleep around 11.  While she slept, I was able to work out and then shower, so that was kinda nice.

Her mommy sent her with a pretty cute shirt today.

That monkey was part of her Valentine's Day gift from us.  I had bought her a sock monkey at Christmas time that she LOVED.  Sadly, we lost it at Sam's Club last week.  So, now she has a new "baby."

She was actually wearing a "pretty" today.  "Pretty" is her word for jewelry.  My mom bought this bracelet for her on their last cruise (about 2 weeks ago).  It has a little dolphin on it, which is perfect since she's currently obsessed with "fishies."
Her daddy actually came to pick her up today, instead of me taking her to her mommy.  We all played for a little while, and she watched Little Mermaid for the second time today.  She's really loving her beanbag, and dragged it into position when I asked her if she wanted to watch the movie.  I don't know why she looks so uncomfortable, but I swear she wasn't!

Look how cute she was when she was ready to leave!!  (Yes, I know the first one is completely blurry.)

I'm not sure where the new backpack came from, but I couldn't resist putting it on her, and making her carry her own "stuff."  I wish I had brought my phone outside with me when I walked them to the car.  She looked so freakin' adorable, walking down the driveway, holding her daddy's hand, carrying her stuff. :P

Here's what I ended up throwing together for dinner tonight.  I hadn't anticipated having Monkey all day, so dinner was really just an afterthought.

I made our usual salad.  We can, and do, eat it almost every single night.  Mixed greens, kalamata olives, tomatoes, and feta.
I put the cucumbers in a separate bowl tonight because I really can't eat them anymore.  For the past few years, they've been killing me, coming back on me for HOURS after I eat them.  It makes me really sad, because I LOVE cucumbers. :(
I dressed them with the same dressing as the salad - olive oil, red wine or balsamic vinegar (whatever I'm feeling that night) salt, fresh cracked black pepper and crushed garlic. I put it all in a small jelly jar, and shake the bejeezus out of it.

For my little Stud Muffin, I made spinach, sauteed in olive oil, with lots of thinly sliced garlic.
That boy could eat spinach every night if I made it.  There's a restaurant nearby that he goes to with his friend specifically because there's a spinach dish on the buffet that he loves.

I did serve shrimp, like I said I was going to, but I did absolutely nothing to it.  Thankfully, it was fully cooked, so all I had to do was thaw it under running water for a while.
We just dipped it in cocktail sauce.  We basically had giant shrimp cocktails for dinner!

We enjoyed some strawberries for dessert.  I snapped a picture of them to show you, because they were HUGE, but I realized after I put it here, that you can't tell how big they are.  I should have put something next to them to serve as a reference.  You can sort of tell, as that's a paper towel, not a napkin, that they're on here.  Well, trust me, they were about as big as my palm!  Man, I would have LOVED it if these had been dipped in chocolate. :(
And, there you go.  Thanks for letting me bore you with our dinner!  I hope you all had/have a wonderful Valentine's Day, and that you spent it with the ones you love.

Happy Valentine's Day

How do you feel about Valentine's Day?

Truthfully, I feel kinda meh.  That's one of Stud's favorite words to use - meh.

I know I've mentioned in the past how we always rolled Magnum's birthday (which was yesterday) and Valentine's Day into one big celebration.  Of course, when we were young and in love, it was a BIG deal.  Cards, candy, flowers, jewelry, and so on.  Then, we had all those years apart, and honestly, some of those Valentine's Days were hard.  Well, it was the being alone part that was hard.  But today is now the third Valentine's Day since we got back together, and really, it pretty much is just another day.  A Hallmark Holiday, as some people call it.  I would much rather we show each other how much we love each other every day, not just on Valentine's Day.  I'm sure there won't be any cards or gifts exchanged today.  (To his credit, all those years we were apart, Magnum always had a card and a gift [flowers, candy, etc] for me from Stud.)  And, that's fine with me.  We certainly shouldn't be spending money frivolously right now, anyway.  I'll probably make a nice dinner, like I mentioned the other day.  We may be going to the AT&T store later to get Magnum a new phone (whichever one is FREE with a new phone line), so that's probably the most exciting thing that'll happen tonight.  We live on the wild side, don't we?

I hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day, and that it turns out exactly how you want it to be.

Wait, what was the point of this blog again?

Oh, yeah, school! OK, I've been downloading freakin' pictures for over an hour and a half. I HATE putting pictures on here because it takes so damn long!! As a matter of fact, I've only put about a third of the photos I planned to post, cuz I can't take it anymore. I'll come back tomorrow and post the rest. I figured out a while ago that Blogger posts photos in reverse order, so I've learned to post them in the opposite order from how I want them posted. I was working backwards from the pictures I took today, and had planned to go back to the beginning of February. Maybe tomorrow... Be sure to click on each picture to enlarge it, so you can really get all the details (AKA cuteness!!)

On the 100th Day of School, we put together a Word Worm with 100 words that we can read.

In March, I always have my babies make these lions and lambs for my March board. There were still a few drying, which is why the board looks a little bare.

As we do every year, we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. The hats came out really cute this year!
The babies are in the library in these photos. I was hoping to give you some idea of how sad our library is at the Hell-Hole. It's so small for a school library!

It isn't much bigger than a regular classroom.

Our librarian has been working really hard to get us some new books, but there's still a long way to go!
The books that are there look pretty good, though, right? Yeah, that would be cuz the kids aren't allowed to check them out!!!
Ah, but we DO have a big screen TV!! Of course! That's cuz the entire library curriculum is watching cartoons! I requested that they at least watch a Dr. Seuss movie on this day.

We made some Valentine people back in February. (I realize this is out of chronological order, but it's just too much of a pain to move it!!)
My girls are obsessed with these links! We take them out during math centers, and inevitably, they always use them to make jewelry. Oh, and crowns!!
Look at how they put them on their ears!! Ouch! They insist it doesn't hurt, but I don't know...
This is from a while ago (I think the date stamp says 2/19/09?) but I took the picture because it was so damn cute. It's a page from one of the babies' journals. When I was asking about the picture, I said, "Oh, is that the snow coming down?" referring to those squiggles. He said, "No, that's God, and he's sending down snow angels!" How freakin' cute is that!??
This was from the same day. This is Twin Boy's journal entry from that day. I could not stop laughing at this because it's a self portrait, and he drew himself so perfectly! He has a green coat, with a hood, and unfortunately, he usually has a sad face. :( But, if you ask, he'll say he isn't sad.
This is an actual note that I received from a parent. Um, WTF? Did somebody snack on the bottom of this paper, or did you pull it out of the garbage? And, apparently, she still doesn't know my name, despite the fact that her child has been in my room since September 5!!!
I couldn't resist taking this picture. This little darling always falls asleep during rest time. This day she somehow fell asleep with her legs up in the air!! How cute is she?! OK, this was exciting!! At some point, either at the beginning of this year, or the end of last year, we were told we could order some "stuff" for our classrooms. I vaguely remember ordering these electronic learning toys. Well, imagine my surprise when a BIG box of things was delivered to my room last week. The babies went ape shit nuts!! They were enthralled for nearly an hour and a half! And, they shared like little angels, working in pairs, with NO fighting, NO yelling, etc. I couldn't help but take their pictures.

OK, this was today. Happy St. Patrick's Day!! I always buy this mylar garland to make these "Leprechaun Prince and Princess Crowns." The babies always love them, and this year was no different. They left those things on ALL DAY!

Damn!! According to the time stamp, I started this freakin' post at 7:48, and it's now 10:21! Perhaps this is why I've been so sucky at updating lately.... Night night!

Happy Valentine's Day, My Bloggy Buddies!

Valentine's Day used to always be such a big deal to "us" when CSJ was around. His birthday was yesterday, so we always made a week of it. I always made him a heart-shaped cake that said, "Happy Birthday to My Valentine." The first year, we had been dating for 2 months, and man, I went ALL out! I borrowed some cake pans from my mom's friend and made a TIERED heart-shaped 4-layer cake. WTF?! It took me a full day. That lasted for years, and even though it eventually just became a standard two-layer heart-shaped cake, the message was always the same. Once my son was old enough to "help," he took over the decorating part, I just baked the cake (still heart-shaped. What can I say, I love those pans.)

This year, I didn't even bother. This is his first birthday since marrying HWW, and I wasn't sure how it would go over with her. I have no idea why I give a shit, since she had absolutely NO problem causing turmoil in OUR marriage, but whatever. I'm too old for this shit, and I don't want to have to deal with any crap, ya know? Besides, if Studly had asked, I would have done it, but he didn't say a thing about it, so screw it. Stud Muffin actually stayed home last night, and hung out with his two best friends. (He and his one friend are still snoring away, and it's after 11:00!) It seems his father didn't really care, either, since he has a new wife to celebrate with him. So, actually, I'm the one who made out, cuz I got to hang out with my three favorite boys all night! I picked the other two up right after school, and we had blast.

Studly is going to a Valentine's Day dance tonight with "the girl." I can't stand that he's gone from being a baby to being a man in about a minute and a half. I'm letting CSJ handle tonight completely on his own. I'll be at work, anyway. Apparently, he took it upon himself to go out and buy a ton of things for Stud Muffin to give to "the girl" for Valentine's Day. Luckily, Stud Muffin isn't into all that mushy crap just yet (and neither is "the girl") so he told his dad to take it all back. All he wanted to give her was a rose. I hope they have fun tonight. It'll be the first dance he'll be going to without his posse, since this dance is for couples. I hope he loosens up and actually dances.

I came across this hilarious page, and thought I'd share it with you. It's called If Valentine's Day Cards Told the Truth. Too funny! Enjoy!

After a week of warm weather (Ok, warm to us!) it snowed last night. Only about an inch, but enough to be kind of annoying. Dorky Dog is at the groomer's right now, and all I keep thinking is that he's going to come out, want to run around in the snow/mud, and I'll have wasted the $50 they charge me to bathe and brush him. Ah, well, I hope they at least give him a Valentine bandanna tied around his neck. If they do, I'll come back later and share a picture.

I think it's time to wake up the boys. Stud Muffin wants to go to the store and get some new pants for the dance tonight, so we'd better get going since I have to leave for the bar in just over 4 hours. Ugh! I'm already tired just thinking about it...

I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon. ~Author Unknown
