Just got home from my parents' house. Mom is doing MUCH better today. She actually made the appointment with her regular doctor for a follow-up. In the meantime, he prescribed some kind of medication (which of course, she couldn't remember the name of!) for the dizziness, and wants her to take it everyday for a week, then stop the next week, and see if it makes any difference. He said that she can then take it as needed.
Did I ever tell you about my parent's GP? Actually, he's also my mother & father-in-law's doctor, and my friend's parents also go to him. EVERYONE loves him. Well, Joe, their doctor, actually went to high school with me!!! How hilarious is that?! My parents were the last of this group to start seeing him. When I told my mom we went to high school together, she says, "Well, we can't go to this kid!" Um...yeah...mom? I'm OLD!! Trust me, he's a full-fledged doctor!!
She got over it pretty quickly. He's a VERY successful physician, and I'm really happy for him. He actually runs the rehab facility that my father-in-law is in right now. He's a big-wig in the Adult Medicine dept at the hospital. In a nutshell, he's done pretty damn well for himself!
Another one of my friends from high school became a neurosurgeon. Way to make me feel like a loser, guys!! The three of us had almost every class together for 4 years. I'm a disgrace to my fellow nerds. :(
This nerd is so ready for bed. CSJ has to work all night, so I'm going to curl up with a good book, and enjoy having my bed all to myself tonight. (Is that bad?)
Merry Christmas!

Glad your mom is improving! And you are getting some rest :)
Happy Tuesday!
I finally caught up on your last few posts. I am so sorry, I would have sent good thoughts and prayers your way, promise!
I am so glad your mom is doing better, you must have been terrified.
I have had a very bad middle ear infection which caused me to walk crooked and throw up (bad) but never felt pain and that is what I immediately thought of. I hoped it wasn't a brain tumor.
Keep me updated so I can send you good vibes.
I am in mid 2009 on your blog so I will never get it done by the end of the month.
I am a whorefaced liar.
Ben and I are praying for your mom and you to get some rest. I hope they get to the root of the problem, and the medication helps with the vertigo. I had a co-worker struggle with vertigo, and it was very difficult at times. I am so glad she has your support.
Enjoy your night in bed with your book.
What a relief about your mom!
Now Hear This: you are not a failure among nerds; you've simply chosen a field that is undervalued in our ridiculous "culture." What you do enables people like your classmates to learn how to become doctors - please remember that! There would be no doctors without medical schools, and no medical schools without teachers, and no one would get into medical school if they hadn't had good teachers on the way to medical school. So there. Bless you, and all good teachers!
I'm so relieved about your Mom!!!!
Your whole family must be exhausted...it's never dull in your 'hood is it?
xo
I am so glad that your mom is home and hopefully on the mend. Just the thought of cancer or major illness is so terrifying.
People I went to high school with are a very mixed bag. A few of us got our masters degrees, and a couple of my friends are engineers or the like, but I think only one person in my class is a doctor. Maybe not even one. Mostly, when I got out of there I just wanted to get a high education so if I ever saw them again I could be all smarty pants. I wish I would have realized that all they wanted to do was get out of there and get married and pregnant within months. A few of my high school friends have kids that already graduated and that is just crazy to me!
Glad to hear things are better!
The problem with public education is that not enough smarties like you are becoming teachers! They're going for the jobs with more prestige.
